Charles “Charlie” Switzer, 89 of Fostoria, Ohio died Thursday morning, June 13, 2019 at the Bridge Hospice Center in Findlay, Ohio. He was born on August 5, 1929 in Fostoria to Harold and Gladys (Might) Switzer. He married Lila M. Fraver on September 20, 1953 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fostoria and she survives. Also surviving his daughter, Jan (Wes) Collier of Ormond Beach, FL, son, Timothy (Lori) Switzer of Mansfield, Ohio, his grandchildren, Angie (Brian) Stackpole, Christopher (Amanda) Smith, Andru & Bryant Switzer, great grandchild Madelyn Smith and nieces Danna (Bob) Shontz and Sherry (Jim) Klopp. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard & Daniel Switzer.
Charlie was a 1948 graduate of Fostoria High School and attended Bowling Green State University; He was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War. Charlie retired in 1985 as a Captain of the Fostoria Fire Department with over 33 years of service. He was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Past Commander of the Fostoria American Legion, Past President of the Fostoria Redmen Club, former board member of the Fostoria Athletic Boosters, Fostoria Red Cross & Lion’s Club in which he was very active. Charlie and Lila loved to travel. Most of all he loved his family and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was often seen enjoying many of the Fostoria sporting events.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria with the Reverend David Culp officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday 9:30 to 11:30 two hours prior to the service with burial in Fountain Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by the United Veteran’s Group of Fostoria. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Fostoria Redmen Club, Fostoria Lions Club or the Fostoria Fire Department.
