Joshua Robert Minton , 32, of McCutchenville, OH, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at his home in McCutchenville. He was born June 8, 1987 in Wauseon, Ohio.
Surviving are parents Bob & Sally Minton of McCutchenville & mother Robin (Darryl) Dykes of Independence, KY, sister Kim (Justin) Spencer of Risingsun, nieces Jocelyn & Hailey, also by those he considered his family, his brothers on the West Point rugby team and members of the 173rd Airborne.
He is preceded in death by grandmothers Suzannne Cunningham and Donna L. Minton, great grandfather George Disbennett.
Captain Minton entered the military in 2006 as a cadet at the United States Military Academy where he graduated in 2010 and was commissioned as a field artillery officer. During his time at West Point he played collegiately for the Army Rugby team. He completed a deployment to Afghanistan in 2012-2013 with Bravo Battery, 4th Battalion, 319th Field Artillery Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and medically retired from the Army in 2018.
His awards and decorations include the Army Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge,Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and three Army Achievement Medals.
He was a 2006 Graduate of Elmwood High School and 2010 Graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Josh was very active with the Ulman Foundation and participated in the Key to Keys bike ride fundraiser. He also participated in the Ruck to Remember, a 60-mile march from Harper’s Ferry to Arlington National Cemetery to support our nation’s fallen heroes.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, Ohio with Reverend Mike Soltis officiating. Military Honors to be rendered by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 1-4 p.m. at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, Ohio and 1 hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Burial will take place Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:30 a.m.in Ohio Western Reserve
National Cemetery, Seville, OH.
