Royal James Harrison, 100, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.
Royal was born on October 1, 1918 to Ray W. and Kathryn (Trumbo) Harrison at their home on the farm in rural Fostoria, Jackson Township. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1936.
Royal married his high school sweetheart Betty June Dicken on March 29, 1942 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Betty passed away on March 11, 2013. Royal and Betty had two children, Janet K. (Harrison) Schmidt and James Richard Harrison.
Royal was elected in 1944 to the Jackson Liberty School Board and was instrumental in the formation of the Lakota Local School District and served on the Board of Education there until 1962. He was appointed to the first Terra Technical School Board of Trustees by then Governor James A. Rhodes in 1969 where he served until 1973.
Royal was a life-long farmer and enjoyed his family, friends and neighbors. He also liked solving problems on the farm and inventing ways to make farm life and work easier. He enjoyed wood working and making things for the family.
Royal was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; daughter, Janet; brother, Frank E. Harrison; and sister, Betty J. (Harrison) Shaull.
He is survived by his son, James R. and Patricia (Michaels) Harrison; grandchildren, Jeanette (Tim) Perkins, Julie (Matt) Varner and Jim (Brett) Harrison; great-grandchildren, Andrew (Chelsea) Perkins, Trenton Perkins, Jonathan J. Jackson and Jaydon Varner; and sister-in-law, June Harrison.
Family services will be private.
