Freda Kathleen (Baxter) Longstaff, 95, of Constantine, MI, formerly of Winchester, KY and Fostoria, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Bowman Place Assisted Living in Three Rivers, MI. Freda was born on July 9, 1923 in Cambridge, OH to Wilmer and Mary Ellen (Durben) Baxter.
Freda graduated from Wellsburg High School in Wellsburg, WV where she was a member of the High School concert and marching bands for 5 years. She played first chair saxophone. She was also a member of the National Honors Society and Thespian Club in High School.
She attended West Liberty College in West Liberty, West Virginia where she graduated as a Dental Hygienist. She practiced Dental Hygiene for 2 years before meeting and marrying the love of her life, William L. Longstaff. They were married August 18, 1945 in Wheeling, WV. Together they raised 5 children: Jeffrey (Sharon) Longstaff of Findlay, OH; Cheryl (Gary) Kuney of Broken Arrow, OK and Honduras; Mary Ellen (Jack) Smith of Constantine, MI; William E. Longstaff (deceased); and Wil Gregg (Joyce) Longstaff of Seattle, WA. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Bill and Freda moved their family from Wheeling, WV to Fostoria, OH in 1957 where they started pastoring a church. They pastored for over 30 years and founded Faith Christian Fellowship Church, currently Parkview Assembly of God in Carey, OH
In addition to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she is survived by her sister, Anna (Baxter) Roach of Newark, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Nyle Baxter, her loving husband William and son Bill.
Freda was a faithful pastor’s wife, beloved Mother, best friend, wise counselor and a child of God. Her focus in life was God and family. Her joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, but we rejoice she is in Heaven with Christ and her loved ones.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria, OH. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 1:00 with service immediately following.
