Wallace “Joe” D. Haughawout, 97, of Fostoria, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at his home.
He was born on October 16, 1919 in Bloomdale, Ohio, to Benjamin and Mable (Fry) Haughawout. He married Virginia R. Brubaker on November 23, 1944 in Lexington, KY, and she died February 23, 2001.
Surviving are his children, John (Bobbye) Haughawout, of Dublin, Duncan (Janet) Haughawout, of Fostoria, and Christine (Duane) Luckey of Worthington; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded by his parents, wife, four brothers and 2 sisters.
Joe retired in 1985 as an insurance sales representative for Western & Southern Life Insurance Company. He was a 1937 Graduate of Fostoria High School, U.S. Army Veteran during WWII, a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Fostoria American Legion.
In Joe’s early years, he enjoyed hunting pheasant, was very active in coaching baseball for both his children and grandchildren. He loved woodworking and antiquing, Joe loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was known as a prolific story teller.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 and one-hour prior to services on Saturday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, with Military Honor’s by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
