Marilyn Reddin

Marilyn Eugenia (Stearns) Reddin, 91, passed away on Valentine’s Day at Birchaven Retirement Village in Findlay, Ohio.

She was born August 27, 1926 to Fred and Ida (Baird) Stearns and grew up on a farm in Wood County with her brothers Donald and James.  She always longed for her older sister Marjorie, who died before she was born.

After graduation from Bloomdale School in 1944, she earned her teaching certificate at Bowling Green Normal School.  She returned to BGSU during summer sessions and graduated in 1969 with her teaching degree.  She taught in Elmwood and Fostoria schools, retiring in 1985 after 28 years.  She was married to Wayne C. Reddin on April 9, 1949.  He preceded her in death in 2002.

She is survived by daughters Sue Hoy of Findlay, Pat (David) Burkart of Maumee, and Nancy (Scott Stanley) Reddin of Denver.  Also surviving are grandchildren Nathan (Lisa) Hoy, Erin (Nick) Parkinson, Timothy (Allyson) Burkart, Joseph (Karrie) Burkart, Kyle Stanley, and Luke Stanley.   Also surviving are great grandchildren Benjamin Burkart, Marilyn Parkinson, Jonah Burkart, Nienna Parkinson, and Charlotte Burkart, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ronald & Mildred Klotz of Risingsun and sister-in-law Joan Stearns as well as nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was a Member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomdale and life member of Retired Ohio Teachers Association, Arcadia Community Garden Club, Fostoria Women’s Club, and 6th Marines Ladies Auxiliary.  She spent many hours compiling the geneology of the Stearns/Baird families of Wood County and also enjoyed gardening, reading, painting, and quilting.  She was very proud of and always happy to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Wayne and Marilyn enjoyed many trips including her first airplane ride to England to visit her brother and family who were living there.  They returned to the States on the QE2.  They also traveled to Okinawa and Guam for a Marine Corps Reunion, family vacations to Canada and Colorado, as well as RV trips with friends Kate and Glenn Graham.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11 AM at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, 301 West Tiffin Street, Fostoria, Ohio.  Pastor Arnold Betz of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomdale officiating.  The family will greet visitors one hour before the service.  Memorials may be made to Findlay-Hancock County Library, 206 Broadway Street, Findlay, OH  45840. 

The family wishes to thank the many caring staff members at Birchaven Retirement Village where Marilyn lived for almost 10 years.
