Maria R. Saenz, 87 of Fostoria passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at Promedica Fostoria Hospital.
She was born June 15, 1930 in Fremont, Ohio to Sotero & Mercedes (Lopez) Gutierrez. She married Ernesto Saenz, Nov. 22, 1952 at St. Wendelin Church in Fostoria. He died Sept. 4, 1997.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Richard) Zeyen of Findlay; a son, Michael Saenz of St. Paul, Minnesota; sister, Cory (Richard) Macias of Fostoria; grandchildren, Gabriel Zeyen, Amanda (Tyler) Waldbauer and True Saenz; and great grandchildren, Audrey Dean and James Waldbauer.
She is preceded by her parents, husband; daughter, Andrea Smith; sisters, Lupe Lopez and Lucille Hernandez; and brothers Tino, Tony and Paul Flores.
Maria retired in 1998 from Fostoria City Hospital and previously worked at the Good Shepherd Home and the Review Times. She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and a 1948 Graduate of St. Wendelin High School.
Maria had a love of and was an accomplished Mexican cook. She collected cook books and enjoyed watching cooking programs. She also enjoyed crafts, was a window sill bird watcher and loved gardening, growing roses and African Violets. Maria once earned Employee of the year for her work at Fostoria City Hospital.
Mass of Resurection will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, with Father Todd Dominique officiating.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral home, Fostoria. Burial will be at St. Wendelin Cemetery, Fostoria.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Promedica Hospice.
